LAVAL MEN – SUAVE FOR THE STORY
30 Sep

It was hardly a David versus Goliath victory. But the FC Scroungers will gladly take the free publicity anyhow.

“Not only was it our best game of the season,” begins Ricky Furtado in an email following his squad’s lopsided 7-1 championship win, but it was apparently in retaliation for a 10-3 regular season drubbing by the very same Avellino Lupi. “I’d say revenge is not only a dish best served cold. It’s pretty sweet as well!”

Perhaps more interesting is the fact that the Scroungers played the entire C2 postseason without starting keeper Phillip Barbosa. “One of our strikers, John Khoury, took his place and performed amazingly in all three games, including the final.”

The C1 Division final, by stark contrast, was as tight as finals come.

Trailing 2-1 in the second half, FC Villa Maria managed two quick goals before FC Minestrone sent the game into overtime. Both teams again traded goals in extra time and were square in penalty shots before the Villa Maria keeper stopped the third and fourth shot. He only had time to raise his hands to the sky before being mauled by his team.
