LAVAL WOMEN – SHOCK, WITH VERY LITTLE AWE
30 Sep

It’s not very often that the fourth and sixth seed in any given division get to meet in a championship game.

And after ousting the top two seeds in equally heart-stopping semis, FC Inter Mtl and Blue Sky tried to make their FB2 final as memorable as possible. The game was deadlocked at two well into the second half of overtime when Catherine Prairie scored her second of the game to seal the deal. Inter Mtl greeted the final whistle with not much more than a celebratory whimper – almost as if they’d been expecting the moment all along.

In the far more telegraphed FB1 final, the undefeated Misfits seemed to hardly break a sweat as they defeated second seed Broad Squad 3-1. Although the Misfits led by only one goal for the better part of the game, it was the Broad Squad keeper who had to make the more miraculous saves before finally conceding the late insurance goal.

POTG: Fernanda Chanes scored all three goals for the Misfits and had a record-shattering 56 goals in eighteen games this summer. Not too shabby.
