Azzurri
ST. LEONARD – NO BLOWOUTS AND NO SURPRISES
24 Sep

With never more than a goal to spare between them during the season, you’d think a tight championship would have been expected.

“The game was unbelievably tighter than expected,” declared FC Azzurri captain Andrew Sangiovanni following his team’s 1-0 win over La Dictature in the C1 final Sunday. “We kept our defence tight with the midfield and the shifts short to reserve energy when needed, which paid off in the second half.”

That aforementioned payoff came in the form of a beautiful lone goal by Joey Fabrizio, whose move from midfield to striker to start the second half proved to be a genius tactical move. “Special mention as well to Adriano Falbo for a goal line clearance in the final minutes of the game to keep the score 1-0.”

Over in the C2 Division, meanwhile, Camvi kept their veteran cool and notched yet another championship for the record books with a 2-1 win over the FC Bricks. Marco Agozzino scored both goals, one a “bomb from way out” and the second a “slalom through their whole defence,” according to supreme leader Mike Agozzino.

Aside from taking Camvi down to the wire, the fifth-seed Bricks also deserve special mention for ousting second-seed Sporting Yul in an equally hard-fought semifinal.
