Cougars
LAVAL WOMEN – TOUCH WOOD, THINK PINK
04 Mar

Hobbling into the playoffs on a nasty losing streak, nobody was expecting the sixth-place Cougars to pull off any kind of weekend upset.

“We suffered a crushing loss to them in our last head-to-head, so we knew we could only get better,” explained Brigitte Nardell following an emotional 2-1 overtime victory against the third-seed Onetouchables. “Both teams could have easily won in regulation, with missed opportunities on breakaways and crossbars conspiring to keep the game tied. When we got the go-ahead goal in overtime, we just locked down and ran out the clock.”

The road to FC1 Division glory will only get more treacherous when the Cougars face the head honcho Pink Ladies – a team they did beat back in November. “We’re still the underdogs, but now it’s time to think Pink.”

POTG: “Rebecca Anderson picked the perfect time to come out of a scoring slump and scored both goals in a clutch performance. Our goalie Andrea Vallejos also made some spectacular diving saves late in the game.”
