Even if his girls would ultimately emerge three points closer to a regular season championship, Les Étoiles de l’Est coach knows this game was more stolen than earned.

“FC Express probably should have won,” admits Gilles Lacroix after the nail-biting 3-2 victory that has left a 9-point gap in the standings between the two sides. “The FC Express girls needed to contain our (lead division sniper) Anne-Pier Jauvin, which they did to perfection. They just forgot about Alex Genest.”

Instead, Genest twice erased FC Express one-goal leads before Véronique Dulong netted the winner for les Etoiles late in the second half. With only three games to play, the victory leaves second-seed les Oranges as the last credible FB1 championship threat.

POTG: Les Étoiles de l’Est striker Alex Genest deserves much credit for picking up the offensive slack and her team’s spirits on two separate occasions. She now joins teammate Anne-Pier Jauvin in the division’s top five scoring race.
