LAVAL WOMEN - A JUMPER-CABLE SHOCKING GOOD TIME
04 Apr

Sometimes it takes a bout of heart-stopping overtime to get the blood flowing.

Because despite the injured Lisa Palmieri’s promise of some animated sideline antics, the better part of the Chelsea FC/Slackers championship showdown was more chess match than barn-burner, with an equal lack of panic and urgency between her heavy favourites and the statistical Slacker underdogs. Regulation time ended in a justifiable 1-1 stalemate. And out came the fireworks.

Chelsea would dominate the first OT offering, a pair of quick goals by Giovanna Marabella and Romina Larralde providing a comfortable enough cushion to put the pacing Micky Giampa at ease. But it would be all Slackers in the second OT, with Alisa Tamburrino scoring nearly cut-and-copy goals down the left-field line to tie it up at three.

Grim death seemed to suddenly drip the Chelsea bench. But only until Giovanna Marabella buried her second in extra time from her office along the right touchline, giving the bruised and battered Chelsea a win they at least statistically deserved.

In other women’s finals, second-seed FC Boisbriand gave its loud and adoring fans exactly what they came for, tearing the game wide open early in the second half with three unanswered goals to ultimately snatch a 4-2 win from FB2 leaders Arsenal. In FC1 action, Michele Dupuis had the hat trick as Blue Sky manhandled the Pink Ladies 6-2. And last but not least, FC 50 Shades managed to sneak a 2-1 championship win by sworn cosmic rivals R2D2 on the back of a two-goal performance by Karolanne Montpellier.
