LAVAL WOMEN - A STUDY IN DIVISION DUOPOLY
22 fév.

Two potential playoff dark horses got the rude reminder this Sunday that the FB1 Division is really just a two-stud race.

“St-Leo had a good game,” recounts coach Mario Agozzino dryly in the wake of a no-sweat 5-1 win over les Cheminots on Sunday, their fourth consecutive runaway victory since third-seed Anjou held them to a 2-2 draw back in mid January. “The girls played a fast paced attacking game, Kyara D’Annessa scored as usual and we coasted to a victory.”

While fourth-seed les Cheminots can at least take comfort in the fact that powerhouse Armada indirectly managed to keep Joga Bonita at bay with their own 3-0 victory this weekend, it’s difficult to imagine how any team in the FB1 Division interrupts the looming championship showdown in chief.

Agozzino may be remiss to agree. The man who led many ‘underdog’ Camvi teams to playoff glory now frets over factors beyond his control. “Playoffs can sometimes be tricky. I want to meet Armada in the finals, but we both have to get there first. I just hope the girls’ exam schedule doesn’t interfere with them not coming to the games. School comes first for these girls.”

POTG: Kyara D’anissa and Alexandra Agozzino both had a pair of goals to keep St. Leo nipping at the heels of FB1 powerhouse Armada.
