LAVAL MEN - AN OCTOBER IN HEAT
09 oct.

Flying sparks and flaring tempers weren’t enough to eclipse one of the more exciting finals in Laval playoff action.

After jumping to an early 2-0 lead, regular season champs FC Union watched feisty opponents Borussia Kronz gradually scratch and claw their way back to even late in the second half. With less than five minutes to go in the game, Union converted another free kick to take a 3-2 lead for an entire minute before Kronz forced extra time.

Union continued to press as insults and cheap shots were exchanged. Despite defender Chris Miceli’s miraculous save with his keeper down and out, Union forward Andre Moreau would eventually give his team the go-ahead on yet another set piece for his third goal of the night. It was then Union keeper Adam Ghemari’s turn to make some killer stops, setting up a late insurance goal in the second overtime and the predictable post-game pileup that would not negate the magnificence of FC Union’s 5-3 victory.

In C5 championship action, the Fluffy Muffins enjoyed a 1-0 lead for the better part of ten minutes before two quick goals by Ibericos early in the second half changed all that, making a comeback far more hopeless than the final 4-2 score line would suggest.

As for the complete Laval sum up…

FC Bianconeri surprised absolutely nobody as they steamrolled over Ashton Villa in the B2 Division final, tying a proverbial bow on a picture-perfect undefeated season – a rarity in this league.

Offensive juggernaut Andy Transport showed their softer, more defensive side as they blanked Zeus 2-0 to capture the B3 Division championship. In B4 action, the sixth-seeded BSC Young Boys followed through on a stunning championship run – one that saw them take out the top two squads – with a 3-1 win over New Regime.

FK Wurst were 2-0 winners over unlikely C1 finalist KG MTL; top seed Cinque Stelle FC handled SS Mischiate 3-1 to collect the C2 prize and, last but never least, sixth-seeded Brazil inched past Arsenal 5-4 after defeating top seed Los Blancos in the semis, capping off a miracle month.
