BROSSARD - CHOMPING AT THE BIT
16 Feb

While it still might be a little early still to call this season a wrap, FC Esteqlal’s Firdaus Mayar has already begun uttering the old C word.

“Our last win against FC Wahdat, I think, was one of the most important games we had left to play this season,” he explains, following his side’s uncontested 6-1 win. “We absolutely needed those three points to stay atop the C Division.”

FC Esteqlal now enjoy a one-game cushion with only four left to go before the playoffs get underway. And while Mayar acknowledges a championship may very well be in the cards, he has also been keeping a weary eye on his good friend and South Shore coach Karim Hissami – whose squad has staged a remarkable five-game winning streak to regain playoff positioning in the C Division – as one potential hurdle. “The way I see it, this might be our ’el Classico!”

POTG: “All my players are motivated to get this championship, whether it’s top scorer Milad Sadeghi or Sahadat Qurbani, who does equally great work for us in front of the net. I couldn’t ask for more.”
